BOOK REVIEW

Miller's Tale by G.A. Hauser is a erotic suspense story.

Officer Steve Miller, an LAPD police officer, is having a quiet shift which is about to take a turn which could change his entire life. Steve responds to a burglary call and he meets Sonja Knight, one of the victims. Steve and Sonja are immediately attracted to each other even though they come from completely different backgrounds, Sonja from a higher class than Steve and a racial difference. Steve can’t stop thinking about Sonja, and when he sees her in court, his feelings become even stronger. Sonja feels the same way, but the social and racial differences keep her from making the first move. Steve approaches her and to his surprise she agrees to go out with him. Steve isn’t one to keep secrets, but Sonja realizes that under his uncultured exterior lies a man who will put his life on the line for the one that he loves. Steve learns that at work and at home, some people have very strong feelings about crossing racial lines that go way past just verbal comments. Steve answers a police call for backup that embroils him in the middle of a racial situation that he never even knew existed. Steve and Sonja have many outside forces that are determined to pull them apart, and when their lives are on the line they have to decide where their loyalties truly lie.

Ms. Hauser has created an inspiring and heart filled story that kept me on the edge of my seat from the very start. Sonja and Steve are two very true-to life characters that leap off the page and take command of the story. The line that I will remember is when Steve is asked about color at work, and he says I only see blue- their uniform color". Put this against the very prejudicial comments from Steve’s father, and the reader quickly realizes that as a culture we have a long way to go in equality of the races. The initial spark between Stave and Sonja quickly fans into a fire that is all consuming and beautiful to behold. Thanks go to Ms. Hauser for a very moving and heartwarming story.

After reading this story I felt revived hope that the world can be a better place if we work hard enough to make it that way. This is the first book that I have read by GA Hauser and I will certainly be on the lookout for more of her books in the future
